The role

We are looking for a VC Associate with 2–4 years of relevant experience to join Wayra Ventures and contribute to the development of Wayra’s presence and investment activity in the UK.

Based in London, you will work closely with Wayra’s broader investment team and Telefónica business units, contributing to the definition and execution of our UK strategy while gaining exposure across the full venture capital lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

  • Play a key role in Wayra’s UK presence, contributing to the local strategy, investment priorities and positioning within the UK startup and venture capital ecosystem.
  • Originate high-quality dealflow and strengthen Wayra’s network, building relationships with founders, VCs, corporates and other relevant ecosystem stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and execute investments end-to-end, including sourcing, company and market analysis, due diligence, investment recommendations, deal execution and legal closing.
  • Identify emerging technologies, sectors and market trends, with a particular focus on areas such as AI and other technologies relevant to Telefónica’s strategic priorities, and contribute to the development of investment theses.
  • Support portfolio companies on strategic, financial and growth topics, including follow-on investment decisions and portfolio monitoring.
  • Develop business opportunities and strategic synergies between startups and Telefónica, identifying relevant use cases, connecting founders with business units and supporting pilots, partnerships and commercial engagements.

About you

  • 2–4 years of professional experience in Venture Capital / Corporate Venture Capital, Investment Banking, Private Equity / Growth Equity, Strategy Consulting, or a relevant role within a high-growth startup or scale-up.
  • Strong analytical and financial skills, with the ability to assess companies, markets and business models and translate analysis into clear investment recommendations.
  • Strong interest in technology and innovation, particularly AI and emerging technologies, with the curiosity and analytical mindset to understand how technologies work at a fundamental level and assess new opportunities from first principles.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to engage with founders, investors and senior corporate stakeholders.
  • Proactive, entrepreneurial and self-driven, with the ability to work independently, take initiative and operate with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Fluent English; Spanish language skills are a plus.
