ÍopeVentures, the investment vehicle launched by Wayra and Telefónica Seguros to invest in B2B startups in the fintech and insurtech sectors, announces its investment in Weecover, a leading Spanish insurance distribution technology platform. Embedded insurance is an innovative way to integrate insurance products and services directly into the purchase experience of other non-insurance-related products or services.
Weecover is an insurtech company that provides a wide range of APIs and technology solutions to connect insurers and distributors quickly, competitively, and securely. Their Insurance as a Service (IaaS) platform allows for the agile and simple offering of any insurer's products and services to customers of retail, e-commerce, finance, or electronics companies. The Weecover platform offers insurance quoting and contracting solutions, along with service and after-sales operations, to cover the entire insurance distribution process. In this sense, it allows any distributor to launch an insurance quoting and contracting proposal for their retail, banking, and finance businesses in just weeks, adapting the processes to the distributors' operations and guaranteeing the highest standards of security, privacy, and performance.
To make this investment, Íope Ventures valued the fact that it is a sector-agnostic platform and an insurance product with a high capacity to adapt to each client, as well as the fact that the startup is led by entrepreneurs Jordi Pagés and Rafael Gallardo, who have in-depth knowledge and a proven track record in the sector.
Weecover has closed the €4.2 million investment round to undertake its growth and international expansion plans. Along with Íope Ventures, Swanlaab Venture Factory, Nauta, La Roca Capital, Bankinter, Prosegur, and others have also joined this investment. Augusto Pérez Arbizu, Telefónica's Corporate Director of Risk and Insurance, states: “Embedded insurance platforms are creating a new mass distribution model. They allow for the incorporation of insurance coverage when purchasing products and services in a very natural and innovative way, improving the value proposition and enhancing the customer experience. That's why we decided to invest in Weecover, because it has a differentiated proposition within embedded insurance that is transforming the insurance industry.” Jordi Pagés, CEO of Weecover, affirms: “The backing of Íope Ventures, along with other leading investors, allows us to strengthen our leading position in the embedded insurance market, as well as boost our ability to maneuver to continue "Innovating and expanding our solutions internationally. Íope Ventures' experience and strategic support will be key to accelerating our mission to transform the insurance experience, adapting it to the real needs of our partners and clients." This new investment from Íope Ventures joins other significant investments already announced, such as Wenalyze, a platform that improves data categorization in the banking sector and optimizes underwriting processes for small and medium-sized enterprises in the insurance field; Mitiga Solutions, a company that combines cutting-edge climate science, AI, and high-performance computing to help its clients understand their exposure to climate risk; and more recently, Rapihogar, a leading startup in neo-assistance. With this new investment, Íope Ventures reinforces its position as a key driver in the digitalization of insurance services. In addition to financial resources, the investment vehicle provides its invested companies with direct access to the Telefónica Seguros and Wayra teams, facilitating commercial synergies.
