TrenLab selects Imotion Analytics, Obuu, Ossicles and Showleap for its second acceleration program

TrenLab, Renfe's startup accelerator developed by Wayra, has selected four startups to enter its second acceleration program. Noise-free trains, smart stations that measure passenger flow in real time, optimized real-time operations, and immediate sign language translation are some of the solutions presented by the winners to drive Renfe's digital transformation: Imotion Analytics, Obuu, Ossicles, and Showleap.

More than 170 startups applied to a call launched with the aim of locating the most disruptive startups with the ability to respond to three of Renfe's challenges: digitization of operations, communication with the traveler and integrated mobility operator. From all the applications, 25% international, 10 finalists were selected: Chaingo, Cohosting, Imotion Analytics, Journify, Obuu, Ossicles, Pixelabs, Showleap, UnaDeApp and

The disruptive proposals of the winners

‘The Google Analytics of brick-and-mortar businesses’ is how the Imotion Analytics team defines it. The startup, created in Barcelona, uses its people and object recognition technology to measure passenger flow and profiles (male/female and age), detect different types of fraud in real time, and calculate parking capacity in real time.

Obuu is focused on the digitalization of operations and was created in Madrid. It has developed software that defines the current efficiency of a fleet in master curves and shows the maximum achievable efficiencies for each investment range, simply with an optimal provisioning strategy.

The startup Ossicles wants passengers to listen to their individual screens without headphones or disturbing other passengers. The Madrid-based project team aims to reduce noise and vibrations inside a car to less than 45dB.

Finally, the solution proposed by Showleap seeks to facilitate communication between deaf and hearing people. The startup in Madrid is developing a real-time sign language-to-speech translator based on camera recognition, Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, and neural networks. Their solution, which includes a video call system with professional interpreters, would be implemented on trains to improve communication with passengers and their user experience. The four winners will receive, in addition to a cash prize of up to €50,000, a personalized six-month acceleration program at TrenLab, the accelerator that Renfe launched in 2018 as part of its innovation plan and which was awarded to Wayra Spain, Telefónica's open innovation hub.
