Wayra participates in Galgus's €2.5 million funding round to finance its growth and international expansion

Galgus, the startup specializing in research and development of wireless network technologies, has closed an investment round led by GED Capital (through its Conexo Ventures fund) and Mundi Ventures, with participation from GoHub Ventures, Global Omnium's corporate venturing arm, and Wayra, Telefónica's open innovation hub. With over seven years in operation, the deep-tech company Galgus aims to improve the user experience of a WiFi network. Galgus has developed a unique technology, Cognitive Hotspot™ Technology (CHT), capable of enhancing a WiFi network by adding intelligence to its various access points. With CHT, these access points acquire the ability to measure what is happening around them, share information among themselves, and thus optimize resources in real time, improving performance by 400%.

With the solution provided by Galgus, Network owners have access to more reliable, greener WiFi infrastructures with high quality of service for users and connected devices. At the same time, they have numerous functionalities that increase the value of their networks, such as device location, heat map generation, hacker detection, and cloud management, among others. Galgus's technology, declared the best startup in digital infrastructure by EIT Digital in 2016 and accredited by the European Commission as a high-potential company in its sector through the awarding of a 'SME Instrument Phase II' grant in 2018, can be found in a wide variety of environments. Thus, in addition to passenger transport such as air, rail, sea, and bus, it is also deployed, to name a few, in hotels of the Barceló chain or even in the Benito Villamarín stadium of Real Betis, where in 2019 it provided WiFi service to all accredited press during the match. The Copa del Rey final between Valencia CF and FC Barcelona. Furthermore, the work being carried out with their partner, Telefónica, in the deployment of WiFi4EU projects is noteworthy. A European Union initiative to reduce the digital divide and help alleviate connectivity problems in rural Spain, where it currently serves some 250,000 people. With the investment of GED Capital, Mundi Ventures, Go Hub Ventures, and Wayra, Telefónica's open innovation hub, Galgus secures the necessary funds and support to finance its growth and boost its international expansion. In the words of its CEO and Co-Founder, Jose Gonzalez, “Thanks to the great work carried out by the Galgus team over all these years, we have achieved a highly advanced and technologically disruptive product that has been validated by the market. Now, with the entry of other investors into the shareholder structure, we will be able to take on new opportunities, scale the business, and ultimately, grow this project that we started just over seven years ago.” “Galgus’s great potential lies in its ability to reduce the digital divide and ensure that no one is left behind in the digital revolution due to a lack of connectivity,” explains Marta Antúnez, director of Wayra Barcelona. “At Wayra, we are eager to help Galgus scale its solution nationwide, thus improving connectivity for communities in rural Spain,” Antúnez points out.
